Just another weight loss blog to the millions that are already out there? I hope not. I wrote a book on quitting smoking (unpublished) and it worked. So I'm doing it again with losing weight and a blog. You're welcome to follow along if you'd like.

No More Pyramid? Basic 4 Has Been Updated To A Plate.
Wow I just got done saying when Dr. Oz loaded up a plate it reminded me of the Basic 4. Michelle Obama must have been thinking that too because now she comes out with a plate and cup! (nytimes) and (cnn)
I think she needed to leave room for desert. I think, if desert was incorporated it might eliminate the fight in overindulging.
I'm not exactly sure where the condescending tone is coming from. CNN kind of torqued me off in this piece. If my kids get the majority of their information at school and the schools use the materials created by federal agencies to teach the children and they are teaching my children the wrong stuff, you can kind of bet that I'm welcoming a change. These are the formative years. Believe it or not I do think back to what I learned in school when it comes to these things. When kids bring the pyramid home and say that you are supposed to eat more grains than vegetables, what do you think I'm going to think when the message senders start talking about an obesity epidemic?
Its not my fault! Even if I had time to cook and cook to my specifications and not the federal government's there is still school lunch which is following government guidelines. Day care providers who are trying to do the right thing. Or, how about when they go out on their own and choose meals off a menu.
If the repeated messages that are out there is to eat right. What is eating right? They ARE supposed to have all the scientific data to back it up, right?
Besides is not really about perfection in what to cook. Its about sitting down, looking at your plate and going, yeah, that is just about right. Or not, I've got to make up for it later. Whether it is portions, calorie intake, or limiting fats, sugars or oils. Its a quick snapshot without being obsessive about it.
Its passing good information on to the next generation. There are always going to be critics. They aren't done deciphering the code in food so there will be new science. I'm sure it will be tweaked in the future.
Right now I'm happy to see the plate.
